Butterfly Effect

2020. Adobe Illustrator.

The Butterfly Effect in chaos theory refers to the disorder of the universe: one simple action, like a butterfly flapping its wings, can set off a chain reaction of cause and effect that leads to a large, unforeseen consequence, like a tsunami forming in the ocean. Or for me personally, the simple decision to take music lessons in second grade created a domino effect of actions and reactions, which now leads me to create visual art about physics. I portray this growth from the mundane to extraordinary using visualizations of gravitational waves in space-time: the gravity generated by objects in space (mundane/cause) ripples throughout the universe, affecting the movement of other celestial bodies (extraordinary/effect). Cause and effect overlap, as the effect of one action becomes the cause of the next.
